Slipknot Guitarist

Donnie Steele
"Grouch"
Donnie Steel was the original guitarist for Slipknot. Even before Josh. He recorded on ALL of the songs on the CD. He quit the band for personal reasons (he found God, and felt there was a conflict) while we were still finishing up the mixing. Mick wasn't even on the album, though his picture is in there. Little else is known about Donnie. He chose to remain on the anonymous side.
Slipknot Guitarist

Josh Brainard
#4 "Gnar"
Josh Brainard, or Gnar as his band mates new him, was the original Slipknot lead-guitarist along with Donnie Steele. Josh was asked to play for Slipknot after playing with Anders, Joey, and Paul over the years. Josh's role shifted a bit in the band from the time he first came. Initially, he was sort of icing on the cake. He could sing foremost, and I think he definitely added a touch of melody to the earlier tunes. Josh's guitar work in the early days was mostly noise and was pedal stuff over the top of what was already there. Later on, Mick really took on the noise and effects aspect. He then began to take on more of a rhythm guitar role. Josh recorded both "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat." and the self-titled record "Slipknot". Many people are unaware that Josh recorded all but one song on the Roadrunner release, that song being Purity, which was recorded by Jim Root. The reason that Josh left Slipknot is between he and the band. Josh is still very good friends with the band, he did not leave because of touring or being away from his family, which until he notified us was just a plain rumor. Josh is currently working with his new band Undone where he sings and plays guitar. Check out their site www.undone1.com. Slipknot Percussionist

Greg Welts
#3 "Cuddles"
Greg Welts, or Cuddles as he is affectionately known as, was the ex-Slipknot percussionist for the band. He operated in a similar capacity to Chris Fehn (his replacement) but Cuddles was one crazy muther-fucker like Sid. He smashed up the entire sets during shows and threw his drum set into the crowd and that sorta shit. Cuddles joined Slipknot after Anders Colsefni quit, and against the advice of family and friends. Cuddles had a close relationship from the band even before he joined, as he is the man who tattooed the tribal "S" on Anders' leg and all the many of the other guys tattoos, as well as inked the outline for Anders' back piece. Cuddles also drummed for the band "The Havenots" which included Joey and Paul. Cuddles was also featured on the inside of the tray of MFKR; the guy in the leather jacket is Dav-o, owner of the Axiom piercing shop in Des Moines and booker at the Safari Club (now known as Hairy Mary's II). Cuddles was the naked guy, long before he was in the band, though. They were both thanked on the back of the album. Cuddles was the only member of Slipknot ever to be sacked from the band, due to the fact that he never was dedicated to the position and contributed very little besides playing Anders old spots. Soon after being fired from the Axiom piercing studio and kicked out of Slipknot, Greg left Des Moines. He currently has a tattoo shop in South Dakota called: "The Ultimate Prick". He played his last show around the summer of 1998 shortly before Slipknot signed to Roadrunner Records. Cuddles, we salute you...

Slipknot Vocalist

Anders Colsefni
Anders Colsefni was the original Slipknot Vocalist. He was asked in 1995 to join a band called Slipknot, by friend Shawn Crahan, that was to have not just one style of music like what was hot at the time, but a blend of all genres including Rap, Funk, Metal, you name it. So Anders, an inexperienced vocalist used to Metal, had to adapt to change his style and so he did. The deep power-driven voice of Anders was what slipknot were based upon, he blew all fans away live, and in 1996 they got a chance to put that onto CD and they did in the highly experimental yet successful "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat". Anders' voice gets a lot of criticism from current Slipknot fans but don't forget his voice created the band and it's much like that of Max Cavalera. After supporting MFKR's release for over a year the band hired Corey Taylor to take over the reigns with a more radio-friendly voice and put Anders into the sole possession of Percussion. However, Anders' voice had developed into a great Heavy Metal voice and so decided to leave Slipknot and create his own band PAINFACE and takeover where Slipknot left off with Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.... Anders, we salute you...
